Discovering a New Vision

Discovering a New Vision

The Inspiration Behind Diplopia SS24

Throughout my childhood, I always felt that my perception of the world was different. It wasn't until more recently that I discovered that I had been living with a condition known as double vision. This condition had been present since birth but had become more pronounced as I grew older.

This realization was not an easy one to come to terms with. However, it also opened up a new way of seeing the world around me, which was both fascinating and enlightening. As I learned more about my unique way of seeing, I found information about UV vision in butterflies. I was immediately struck by the similarities between their vision and my own. Like the butterflies, I, too, saw the world in a new light, with colors and patterns that others couldn't see. It was both exhilarating and overwhelming, and I knew I had to find a way to express this newfound perspective.

The Birth of Diplopia SS24

That's how the idea for my fashion collection was born. Each piece was inspired by the beauty and complexity of the world, as seen through my double vision. I used bold colors and intricate patterns to capture the essence of this unique way of seeing, and the result was a stunning and deeply personal collection. My double vision was no longer something to be ashamed of but a source of inspiration and creativity. Like butterflies, I knew I would continue to see the world in a new and beautiful way for many years.

What is Diplopia?

Double vision, or diplopia, is a condition where a person sees two images of a single object. This occurs because the two eyes are not correctly aligned, so each eye sends a slightly different picture to the brain. The brain then tries to fuse these two images into one, but double vision can occur if the images are too different.

There are two main types of double vision: binocular and monocular. Binocular double vision occurs when both eyes are open and can be caused by a misalignment of the eyes, such as strabismus (a condition where the eyes are not properly aligned) or a problem with the eye muscles that control eye movement, such as nerve damage or muscle weakness. Monocular double vision occurs when only one eye is open and can be caused by problems with the eye itself, such as a cataract or corneal irregularity.

What is Butterfly UV Vision?

Butterflies are known for their beautiful and colorful wings, but they also can see ultraviolet (UV) light. UV vision is vital for butterflies because many flowers have only visible patterns in the UV range, which helps guide the butterfly to the nectar source. Butterflies have specialized photoreceptor cells in their eyes that are sensitive to UV light.

These cells contain a pigment called opsins, which can absorb UV light and convert it into an electrical signal that is sent to the brain. Butterflies have three types of photoreceptor cells, each containing a different opsin pigment that allows them to see colors ranging from ultraviolet to red.

The UV vision of butterflies is essential for finding food and mates. Many butterfly species have patterns on their wings that are only visible in UV light, which play a role in mate recognition and courtship. Overall, the ability of butterflies to see in the UV range is a necessary adaptation that allows them to navigate their environment and find food and mates.

The High-End Craftsmanship of Diplopia SS24

The Diplopia SS24 collection is a journey through a world seen through a unique lens—a world where colors and patterns take on new dimensions, reflecting a vision that transcends the ordinary. Inspired by the delicate and intricate beauty of butterfly wings and the complex interplay of light, this collection celebrates both nature's wonders and the power of human creativity.

Imagine fabrics so luxurious they almost seem to float, crafted from the finest silks and organza, each piece meticulously designed to capture the ethereal essence of a butterfly in flight. The collection plays with light and shadow, with layers of organza laser-cut into delicate, scale-like shapes that create a mesmerizing, almost otherworldly effect. The colors are bold yet harmonious, ranging from deep purples and vibrant fuchsias to soft lavenders and shimmering blues, each hue carefully selected to evoke the enchanting iridescence found in nature.

The designs blend boldness and refinement, where the fluidity of silk meets the structured elegance of tailored crepe and taffeta. There are moments of surprise—like the sudden appearance of a butterfly's silhouette, subtly woven into the fabric, or the way the light catches on a glossy finish, transforming the garment as you move. Each detail, whether it's a hand-sewn Swarovski crystal or a meticulously draped ruffle, is a testament to the countless hours of craftsmanship and the passion for creating these pieces.

But beyond the physical beauty of the collection lies a more profound story—a narrative about seeing the world differently and finding beauty in the unexpected. Just as butterflies use their ultraviolet vision to navigate a world invisible to others, this collection invites you to explore a new perspective that challenges the boundaries of traditional design and celebrates the art of seeing beyond the surface.

The interplay of textures and the innovative use of materials reflect the world's complexity and richness, as seen through double vision. The collection doesn't just clothe the body; it tells a story that is as much about the creation process as it is about the final product. It's a story of transformation, where raw materials are elevated into something extraordinary and where each piece, though rooted in craftsmanship, also expresses artistic vision.

In Diplopia SS24, every element—from the laser-cut edges to the intricate patterns—works together to create a collection that is not only visually stunning but also profoundly evocative. It's a reminder that beauty is often found in the details and that sometimes, seeing the world through a different lens can reveal wonders that others might miss. This collection is not just about fashion; it's about experiencing the world in a new light, where elegance meets imagination, and where every piece tells a story waiting to be discovered.
